Hybrid Diesel-Electric TRANSTAINER
The Hybrid Transtainer was first introduced to the market in 2009 with a goal of fuel reduction. An added benefit was a reduction of emissions, increasingly important as climate change concerns increased.
Like other hybrid machines, a large lithium ion battery bank stores energy from the engine and regeneration of energy gained during operation. When additional power is necessary, i.e., hoisting up containers, the battery will add additional energy to support the operation.
Annual Running Costs
With the boost of battery power, the standard 400-500kW engine on conventional Transtainers can be replaced with an efficient variable speed engine half the size, translating to a reduction of annual running costs. The smaller engine reduces maintenance costs and fuel consumption savings of approximately 60% .
Maintain Flexible Operation
The Hybrid TRANSTAINER® keeps the conventional flexible operation in cross-travel from container stack to stack. Moreover, in the case of engine problems, the large capacity battery (depending on battery energy level) can assist in certain operations such as moving the crane to the maintenance shop, thereby minimizing disruptions to the entire terminal operation.
Reduced Carbon Emissions
The new Hybrid TRANSTAINER® reduces carbon dioxide emissions up to 60% and saves up to 60% of diesel fuel using the following technologies:
-Large Capacity Battery (Li-Ion) enables effective reuse of stored regenerated power, which downsizes the diesel engine.
-Variable Engine Speed Control system controls engine speed to optimize with operating conditions and minimize fuel consumption.
